Topics frequently discussed on this blog: cross-platform games, mobile games, massively multiplayer games, and games for learning.
I am a videogame designer at a startup in the San Francisco Bay Area. I recently finished grad school at MIT’s Comparative Media Studies. While there, I worked with The Education Arcade, designing games to teach math, literacy, and foreign languages. I wrote my thesis (and much of this blog) on cross-platform gaming. For instance, I would love to see cell phones used to extend PC massively multiplayer games. Mobile, connected devices are perfect for hooking into persistent game worlds to do everything from checking auctions to dueling (especially with friends physically nearby) to grinding for experience or money to voting for guild leaders or game world referendums. We are starting to see this now, but the full potential remains unexplored.
